Is Sunday A Good Day To Drive For Uber?

As an Uber driver, you have to accept the various highs and lows that come with the industry. Some weeks will be busy every day, while other weeks are a bit slower. Often, how busy you are will depend on holidays, events, and the weather. Every driver’s strategy is different, depending on which city they live in.

One of the most common topics on ridesharing boards is, “Is Sunday a good day to drive for Uber?

While Sunday typically isn’t as busy as Friday and Saturday, Sunday is still a good day to drive for Uber. Especially in the mornings. Early Sunday mornings can be very profitable if you drive for Uber in a city with a strong nightlife scene.

Let’s take a look!

Driving Uber On Sunday: Things To Consider

Sundays are also fairly laid-back, and there’s never any traffic, so that’s another advantage! I’ve driven Uber in several different cities, and ultimately, Sundays haven’t been all that different from a Tuesday or a Wednesday. However, there are a few different factors that you should keep in mind to determine whether it’s worth it for you to drive in your city

Of course, this depends on your city and the culture/nightlife there. In general, however, I’ve found Sundays to be quite similar to any other day of the week in terms of how much money I make per hour.

So, should you drive on Sunday, or should you pass on the opportunity and just stay inside? Well, it all really comes down to the city you live in. For example, when I was driving in Las Vegas and Phoenix, I always made great money on Sundays.

However, I have some friends who Uber in smaller cities like Knoxville, TN, and they say that Sundays are usually slow for them. Perhaps they’re just clocking in at the wrong time, but my theory is those small cities tend to be slower on Sundays since there’s less going on. In my case (as a Vegas Uber driver), I’ve had Sundays that are just as busy (money-wise) as Fridays!

Ultimately, though, you won’t know until you try it a few times. After reading this, you may consider giving it a second shot, though. Here are some things to consider if you’re thinking about Ubering in your city on Sunday.

Early Mornings Are Great

So, technically speaking, after the clock hits 12am on Saturday night, it’s officially Sunday morning. While you may not think about it on these terms, your paycheck will still show that you drove on Sunday if you’re out past midnight.

With this in mind, then, early Sunday mornings can be very profitable if you live in a city with a strong nightlife scene. In most cities, clubs don’t start letting out until between 2am and 4am. This means that you could drive between 10pm Saturday night and 5am Sunday morning and make a lot of money. If there’s a shortage of drivers, then you may also be able to get “Surge Pricing,” which is where Uber pays you extra. This typically happens on holidays or on busy Saturday nights.

Late Mornings Can Also Be Good

Okay, so Sunday mornings can still be profitable when the clubs are popping… But what about Sunday mornings after the sun has risen? In my experience, I’ve actually found that Sunday mornings between 8am and 1pm can be quite busy!

On the one hand, you’ll have a lot of the stragglers from the night before. This includes one-night-stands, people who got drunk and stayed with a friend, or just hungover people who are looking to get a ride to the closest IHOP or Waffle House. If your city has a “brunch culture,” then you could end up being busy into the afternoon!

On the other hand, you’ll have people who are on their way to church in the mornings. Not all church-goers have a car or reliable methods of transportation.

Is There An Airport In Town?

If you live in a mid to large-sized city that has an airport in town, then Sunday mornings can bring you some good airport traffic. For example, many people who travel for business (whether for themselves or working for somebody else) fly in or fly out on Sundays. This is because airplane tickets tend to be a bit cheaper on Sundays due to decreased volume of flights

However, there will be flights that come in and go out. If there isn’t a lot of action happening on the hangover scene, then you’ll almost always be able to get a few trips if you make a couple of cycles through the airport!

Are There Any Major Events Going On?

Sundays may not be big club days, but there are often a number of sports events that happen on Sundays. If you have a major stadium in your city, you could make excellent money to take people to and from their cars/homes to the stadium. The same also applies if there is a major graduation ceremony at a local college.

Benefits To Driving Uber On Sunday

Hopefully, I’ve been able to show you a few different ways to cash-in on your Sunday mornings as an Uber driver. As I mentioned, though, it all depends on where you live. If you’re in a small town in the North Carolina foothills, for instance, Sunday mornings will most likely be dead as a doornail. In a big city like Miami or Las Vegas, though, Sunday mornings can be hectic.

If you’re still not convinced, here are a couple of other benefits to driving on Sundays to take into consideration.

Less Competition

Although it may seem counterintuitive, Sundays can be profitable for the sole reason that other drivers aren’t driving. If everybody else in your city thinks that they’re not going to make any money, then there may be a surge. You’ll never know unless you’re clocked-in and waiting for it to happen!

No Traffic

Last but not least, Sundays typically have very little traffic! If you’re looking for a chill, laid-back day where you won’t end up screaming obscenities out of the window, then Sundays are a perfect day to clock-in and make some easy money.
