How Long Does a Doordash Refund Take?

Doordash is the most popular food delivery app in the United States making nearly a billion deliveries per year. With that many deliveries there’s bound to be some refunds in the mix. So, how long does a refund on Doordash take?

Doordash refunds are processed instantly and should appear on your account immediately if it’s a Doordash credit refund. A refund to your credit card company or bank may take 5 to 7 business days to process

The rest of this article will cover the refund process on Doordash.

Doordash’s Refund Policy

First of all, Doordash has no obligation to grant a refund. Their terms of service states, in no unclear terms, that no refunds shall be given once a customer has paid for their food. The company reserves the right to grant a refund in certain circumstances.

Doordash is not very transparent about their refund policy to prevent customers from scamming the system. But the general consensus is the Doordash will issue refunds in the following scenarios:

  • The customer received the wrong order.
  • There were missing items in the order.
  • The order never arrived.
  • The order arrived late.
  • The food item was not as described.

The refunds usually come in the form of an account credit that is credited instantly. It is possible to receive a refund on your credit or debit card, though. It just takes a few extra days for that to process.

Partial Refunds

Sometimes Doordash will issue a partial refund on your order. This typically occurs for an incomplete order or a very late delivery.

Doordash will not issue a 100% refund on a $100 order when a $10 item in the order is missing. You will only receive a refund on the $10 order if Doordash gives you a refund.

The same thing applies to a late delivery. You may receive a $5 or $10 account credit on a late delivery rather than an account credit for the entire order.

Doordash Does Not Like Frequent Refunders

Doordash will not grant you more than three refunds over the life of your account. This is to prevent refund abuse from customers

It’s unfortunate because Doordash orders frequently have items missing. Due to Doordash limiting the number of refunds a customer can make, you should use your refunds carefully.

It’s also important to note that Doordash does not have to refund any orders per their terms and conditions, so they may be reluctant to refund large orders.

Who Pays for a Doordash Refund?

The restaurant or the driver will pay for the refund. If the error was the fault of the restaurant, then they must pay for the refund. If the driver lost an item, then the refund comes out of their earnings.

The restaurant usually ends up paying for the refund. Doordash has this policy in place to prevent restaurants from sending out incomplete orders, so do not feel bad about making a refund if you receive an incomplete order.

Final Thoughts

To wrap things up, a Doordash refund should hit your account instantly if it’s an account credit refund. If the refund goes through a bank, then it could take up to five business days. The most difficult part about receiving a Doordash refund is qualifying for one – the food delivery app can be rather strict with issuing refunds.
