Does Doordash Accept EBT?

Doordash has become a popular food delivery app for restaurants as it allows them to outsource their delivery to a third party. It also makes ordering delivery a lot easier for customers. Now, does Doordash accept EBT?

No, Doordash does not accept EBT payment because EBT payment cannot be used for restaurant food. EBT funds can only be used to purchase unprepared food.

The rest of this article will cover some of the payment options available on Doordash along with why EBT cannot be used on Doordash.

Here’s Why Doordash Does Not Accept EBT

Doordash does not accept EBT payment because they legally cannot accept it. As mentioned previously, EBT payment can only be used to pay for unprepared food (fruit, vegetables, meat, etc.) or for frozen meals.

EBT payment cannot be used to pay for food that is ready to eat at the time of purchase. There is no immediate plan to change the item eligibility of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), so it’s unlikely that this will change any time in the near future.

With that said, Doordash does offer plenty of payment options, so you should not have any issue paying for food on Doordash.

What Payment Options Does Doordash Accept?

Doordash does not accept EBT payment, but they do accept the following payment methods:

  • Apple Pay
  • Credit or Debit Card
  • Venmo
  • Doordash credits

It’s recommended to use a credit card via Apple Pay or simply by entering it in the app as credit cards offer a range of different bonuses compared to debit cards and the chargeback process is easy. But any of the payment methods listed above will work fine.

What Delivery Apps Accept EBT?

None of the restaurant delivery apps accept EBT because restaurant food does not qualify for EBT. The delivery apps that accept EBT are almost all grocery delivery apps. Some delivery apps, or grocery stores that offer delivery, that accept EBT include the following:

  • Instacart
  • Walmart
  • AmazonFresh and AmazonPantry
  • ALDI
  • Hy-Vee
  • Food Lion
  • Kroger
  • Publix

Stores are starting to add EBT payment for those that order online for curbside pickup or delivery, so it’s worth checking out if your local grocery store has started doing it.

Does EBT Cover The Delivery Fee?

No, you cannot pay for the delivery fee with your EBT card. You must pay for the delivery fee and tip out of your own pocket.

Remember, you can only use EBT to pay for food items – it cannot be used to pay for non-food items or services related to the purchase of your food.

Final Thoughts

Doordash does not accept EBT because most of the items on Doordash are not eligible for payment via EBT. EBT can only be used to pay for non-prepared food or prepared food that is served cold.

You can use your EBT card to pay for groceries that are subsequently delivered to you in most states, though. Of course, the EBT payment cannot be used to pay for the delivery fee or the tip.
