Does Gopuff Take EBT?

Gopuff has become a popular alternative to driving directly to a convenience store. Instead, you can order convenience store products directly to your door. But does Gopuff accept EBT like most convenience stores?

No, Gopuff does not accept EBT. A lot of the items on Gopuff are EBT eligible, but the delivery app does not currently accept EBT. This might change in the future as the US Department of Agriculture has been expanding EBT to delivery apps.

The rest of this article will examine some of the finer points of using EBT or SNAP on delivery apps like Gopuff.

Why Does Gopuff Not Accept EBT Payment?

Gopuff does not accept EBT payment because most of the items on Gopuff are not SNAP eligible, which means accepting EBT would be pointless. It’s also worth mentioning that there are some delivery apps out there that accept EBT because they deliver EBT eligible groceries.

With that in mind, you can use EBT to pay for a variety of groceries that includes the following:

  • Fruit
  • Vegetables
  • Meat
  • Poultry
  • Fish
  • Snacks
  • Frozen food

You cannot use EBT to pay for non-food items or alcohol.

A large portion of the items for sale on Gopuff are household goods and other non-food items. It would make little sense for Gopuff to accept EBT when maybe 10% of the items available on Gopuff can be purchased with EBT.

What Payment Options Does Gopuff Accept?

Gopuff accepts a handful of payment options that makes it fairly easy to pay for orders. The payment options that Gopuff accepts are:

  • Credit card
  • Debit card
  • Venmo
  • Apple Pay
  • Google Pay

The best payment option to use on Gopuff is a credit card. Specifically, a credit card that offers cash back or points for every dollar spent. You should view a credit card like that as using a coupon, so use it whenever possible.

Credit cards also offer much better consumer protection than debit cards. It’s much easier to file a chargeback with a credit card compared to filing a chargeback on a debit card. If Gopuff fails to deliver your order (rare, but it does happen), then you can file a chargeback with your credit company and not have to pay for the order.

What Food Delivery Apps Accept EBT?

Most food delivery apps do not accept EBT. But most of the grocery delivery apps and grocery stores that offer delivery do accept EBT for delivery orders and pickups. Some of those apps include:

  • Instacart
  • Amazon Fresh
  • Publix
  • Walmart
  • H.E.B
  • Safeway
  • Aldi

Final Thoughts

Gopuff does not accept EBT as a form of payment. Even if they did, most of the items on Gopuff are not EBT eligible, so you would be greatly limited by what you could buy on the app.

Fortunately, Gopuff offers plenty of payment options, so you should not have any issue paying for any items on Gopuff.

If you want to use your EBT card to purchase groceries for delivery, then you can do that on apps like Instacart, from most grocery stores that offer delivery, or even when buying groceries on Amazon.
